Early Life and Education
Alexandra Mary was born on 21st September, 1985 in Brisbane, Australia. She grew up in Queensland, Australia. Whether it’s the Ferrari and other supercars which she gets to drive now or her first Mitsubishi Lancer, she has always loved driving cars. Alexandra studied business and journalism at Queensland University of Technology. She moved to Dubai in 2008.
Living the dream life
Driving makes Alexandra happy and with Supercar Blondie channel she gets paid for doing just that. Isn’t it the dream of most petrolheads?
She has done laps with the Stig from the BBC show, Top Gear in UAE. She got a chance to drive the Batmobile, a LaFerrari and a Dodge Demon. Alexandra has also driven the special Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport L’Or Blanc, she describes it as a ‘work of art’. She was the third person in the world to have driven it and it’s been her favourite driving experience.
Although she’s always loved driving cars; the Ferraris, Lamborghini’s and the Mclarens take her appreciation factor up by 1000 times. She says, “In Dubai, we spend too much of our lives in cars; we shouldn’t be wasting it in something boring, but rather enjoy every minute in something we love and appreciate.”
How was Supercar Blondie channel born?
As you know Alexandra lives in UAE where it’s quite common to see supercars on a daily basis. One day, she realised that if she loved seeing them so much, there must be others in the world who would love to see them as well. So, she started documenting it and Supercar Blondie channel was born.
But it wasn’t until April 2017, that she decided to quit her job and become a full time social media Influencer. As she puts it, “I met up with 60 other supercar owners near UAE-Saudi Arabia border, and we were escorted by Dubai Police Supercars – with a LaFerrari leading our convoy— and a helicopter throughout our trip. It was incredible, and that’s the moment I decided to quit my job on the radio, and go full-time with my social media.”
Doing things differently
There are many car review channels on YouTube, and they focus on… well, reviewing cars. But, what differentiates Supercar Blondie is the approach she takes while filming her videos. Instead of reviewing, she shares her experience of driving these cars from a layman’s point of view.
This has allowed her to amass over 3.2 Million Subscribers and 228+ Million views on YouTube. That should put her net earnings to about US$ 65-70k a month. As of 2020, we have estimated the net worth of Supercar Blondie to be about $US 1 Million.
Supercar Blondie is set to launch her own TV show soon to expand her audience beyond just online users.
She was listed in the 50 Most Influential Women in Dubai by Arabian Business in 2018. The same year, Esquire Middle East named Alex the Influencer of the year.
The hard part of being a YouTuber
If you’re familiar with the platform you’ll understand how some people can comment mean things and ruin your day. But, it’s important to understand when there’s something wrong on our part, take it as a criticism and improve. On the other hand there are trolls whose only motive is to bring the creator down. In such a case it’s about them and not us. So, its better to ignore them.
Alex says, “I am living my dream, but it’s not all rainbows and lollipops”. This is the thing about social media, no matter how good your videos are, how much effort you’re putting in your content, there’s always going to be someone trying to bring you down.
